Development Status Of APIs

There are more than 8,700 pharmaceutical enterprises in China, more than 6,000 pharmaceutical manufacturers through GMP, more than 3,000 API manufacturers registered with the State Food and Drug Administration, and pharmaceutical intermediates manufacturers also account for a large proportion.
In 2008, the total import and export volume of Chinese APIs was 23.894 billion US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 22.19%, accounting for 49.07% of the total import and export of Chinese medicines.
From 2008 to the present, the average annual compound growth rate of China's API exports has exceeded 20%, and the export volume in 2009 reached 17.58 billion US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 29.59%. The role of exports in the API industry is becoming more and more obvious and important, which directly promotes the improvement of the industry's profit level, and from January to November 2012, APIs achieved a profit of 15.59 billion yuan, an increase of 49.5%.
